Topic 9: Nan-ji ni okimasu ka

In this topic, I learnt about how to tell my daily routines.

I wake up on 6:30.

I have breakfast.

しんぶんを　よみます。
shinbun wo yomimasu.
I read a newspaper.

At 7:30, I go to university.

In this topic, I learnt about using basic classroom expressions and write my name and country in Japanese.

1. Hai, imasu.

The instructor, Dr. Zoraida, asked about the attendance of the students. The situations were as follows:

Sensei: Izzudin-san, imasuka?
せんせい　：　イズデインさん、　いますか。
Instructor: Is Izzuddin here?

Izzuddin: Hai, imasu.
イズデイン　：　はい、　います。
Izzuddin: Yes.

Sensei: Azurin-san, imasuka?
せんせい　：　アズリンさん、　いますか。
Instructor: Is Azurin here?

Kyoushitsu: Iie, mada desu.
きょうしつ　：　いいえ、　まだです。
Class: No, not yet.

Sensei: Fatin-san, imasuka?
せんせい　：　ファチンさん、　いますか。
Instructor: Is Fatin here?

Kyoushitsu: Iie, imasen.
きょうしつ　：　いいえ、いません。
Class: No, she is not here.

In this subtopic, I learnt about simple instructions.

3. Moo ichido onegaishimasu

In this subtopic, I learnt about simple conversations in classroom.

Situation 1

じゅぎょを　はじめます。
Jugyoo hajimemasu.
The class starts.

わかりました。
Wakarimashita.
I understand.

わかりません。
Wakarimasen.
I don't understand.

じゅぎょを　おわります。
Jugyoo owarimasu.
The class ends.

Situation 2

せんせい、「きょうｓじつぃ」　って　どういう　いみですか。
Sensei, [kyoushitsu] tte doo yuu imi desuka.
Teacher, what does [kyoushitsu] means?

えいごで　"classroom" ですよ。
Eigo de "classroom" desuyo,
It means "classroom" in English.

もういちど　おねがいします。
Mouichido inegaishimasu.
Please say it once again.

もうすこし　ゆっくり　いって　ください。
Mou sukoshi yukkuri itte kudasai.
Please say it more slowly.

4. Namae

In this chapter, I learnt to use write my names and country.

わたしは　イズデイン。ツルンガヌ　から きました。
Watashi wa Izudein. Turunganu kara kimashita.
I am Izzuddin. I'm from Terengganu.

Topic 1: Konnichiwa

In this topic, I learnt about how to greet in Japanese. Some of good greetings are:

Good morning.
おはようございます。
Ohayō gozaimasu.

Good afternoon.
こんにちは。
Kon'nichiwa.

Good night
こんばんは。
Konbanwa.

Goodbye - See you again
さようなら - じゃあ、また。

In this topic, I also learn about hiragana, katakana, and kanji. There are also two other writing system that are known as roomaji and suuji.

Hiragana is the more cursive and more widely used form of kana (syllabic writing) used in Japanese, especially used for function words and inflections. (e.g. うみ umi sea)

Katakana is the more angular form of kana (syllabic writing) used in Japanese, primarily used for words of foreign origin. (e.g. オレンジ orenji orange)

Kanji is a system of Japanese writing using Chinese characters. (e.g. 日本 nihon Japan)

Romaji is a system of Romanized spelling used to transliterate Japanese. (e.g. ichi, ni, san. One, two, three.)
